I get this all the time unfortunately, and i don't understand quite why. Someone please explain to me this weird phenomenon.

Scenario 1 : I promised to bring Rockband to school for a school fundraiser, and so i did, and i have it on PS3, so i obviously brought my PS3. At one point a very skinny, gawky kid with thick emo glasses comes up to me and goes, "Oh look, you have a PS-Gay! What's so good about it? PS3 is for fags. Oooo you guys have Metal Gear Solid, big whoop, we have Halo, and Ninja Gaiden 2, Ha!" and quite possibly says more, but i don't remember, and then walks away. Never knew that kid, nor did i ever say anything to him. Keep in mind he just came up to me at a school fundraiser and said this to me.

Scenario 2: Talking with friends at a Border's bookstore about how great Metal Gear Solid 4 was the other night (we all played it together, had loads of fun), when this guy that was with us in that section turns around and goes, " I played that game, it was ok, but I would still get a 360, it has waaaay more good games, like Halo 3." We all stare at the guy silently for about 5 seconds then I offer up to say, "You said game(s), and only named 1 game.........." The kid stammers for a second to choke out "Gears of War!" we all nod in agreement and state what a great game it was to play. The fanboy looks severely confused, as we have just agreed upon his own system. He then states "360 is totally better, get it, man, owns PS3 in the balls!"

Now, i have 2 more scenarios i was about to type up, but I'm sure you're quite sick with reading by now. My question: why are people fanboys? (Especialy 360 fanboys). As you can see neither me nor my friends care much for a video game system, we just like to have a good time. How can you feel defensive about a piece of hardware to the point of having to assault another piece of hardware? I've never retorted back to a 360 fanboy that my PS3 is better, i always state that yes, the 360 does indeed have many good games, or what their point is at all for stating w/e it is they stated to me. What do you even get out of defending a piece of hardware?

People be fanboys because they want to fell superior about their choice of console i also think there is a level of retaliation because each side has tons of them already.

I never get fanboys either, but my logical hypothesis is that parents are only prepared to buy 1 console for their kids, and if it's the 1 they hate, they have to be butthurt about it and make up shit to defend their own console and say bad things about other consoles cus it makes them feeel better.

BTW fanboys on both sides are equally retarded assholes. Isn't the point of gaming to have fun on your own favorite console, who gives a crap about what other people think.

I own a 360 and I love it, but I never say bad things about other consoles, or things that are not true about them.

people like this need to get out more. saying a system is better than another. it's like saying luxons are better than kurzicks (or vise versa).
it's just an effing game [system]. if you like it, that's great. it doesn't mean everyone has to agree with you.

Haha my friend actually always made fun of me for playing Nintendo stuff, saying it was "kiddy" and everything. He has a Wii now.

Exactly. Person buys X because he likes it -> them faces some else who bought Y -> Eithet X or Y is good -> One of them is moron who bought inferior thing, and neither of them want's to be that guy. -> Hilarity ensues as people who base their self worth on stuff they own battle who has better stuff and is better human or something.

Especially if you think you have inferior console and you overcompensate it. Gotta love those kinds which got console they didn't want because parents see them as "all same gaming thingie and this was cheaper" and which then defend it as best console ever and need constant validation that nope, my 360 does not suck.

What's even funnier is that in all commercials there are usually only old people and little children ;p

Don't forget about "sorrowful fanboy" - he was all hyped up on a game/console/whatever, then it turned out to be a piece of crap, but since he wanted it to be good, he's acting like it's a GOD'S creation.

It's a tribal thing. Men and sometime women want to feel like they belong somewhere, be it a club, a group or an AA meeting. And when they encounter a different tribe, it's in their nature to proof that they're superior.

I think fanboys are hilarious, I remember one guy at a game shop was trying to persuade me to buy an xbox360 and even went as far as saying that it's twice as powerful as the PS3 (wtf?), I just nodded in agreement and left, God knows how he got employed.
I did buy an xbox360 though from somewhere else much cheaper.. I also got a full refund for it when it died and needed the money pretty badly. Nothing wrong with my PS2 I guess

As for why fanboys exist.. Can't say I have any valid input beyond what people have already said.

I'm tempted to say human nature, but the annoyance factor of the fanboys is pretty effin' high.

- I don't give an eff about graphics. I still play the NES so if you tell me I should buy a game 'cause it's got AWESUM SUPER DUPER GFX at the expense of a good gameplay or good storyline... GTFO. (The main reason people yell at me when I say I have a Wii. "GFX LOOKS LEIK CRAP!!!1111!". I DON'T CARE. It's FUN to play.)

- I don't like shooters, sport games and PC-to-console ports. Why would I buy a 360? For the very few games I'm gonna like on it, and will be able to get on PC? I'm better with my Wii, my DS and my (now-dead) PS2.

Also I hate ipod fanboys and ipods in general. I go to bestbuy to get a zune card and they have one, a $25. I don't want to spend that much and look for different ones. None anywhere.

The whole fanboy/fangirl thing is just weird to me.

For example (not to derail teh console fanboy/fangirl conversation

), my gf's sister will see something in an anime, then say it's her favorite thing...try it and realizes it's crap.

As for consoles, I really play what I enjoy playing-and I like things to be multipurpose (hence why I love my PSP-music, games and movies

). That's why I got a PS2 (wanted some DVD action), and that's why I got my PS3. Now I'm not saying the PS3 is superior, because it really boils down to what people like. For me I don't see the point in a 360 'cause most of the games for it I can get either on the PS3 or PC (and the chem geek in me likes the fact you can run protein simulations on the PS3).

+ Good system, pretty powerful and multi-functional (can do more) and also more reliable

360:
+ Has some nice games and some good promised titles

I'll stick with my Wii...it's fun; it doesn't boast intense graphics or mad games, just fun for anyone and everyone without major 12 hour game-time commitment.
